FDA
The Food and Drug Administration's Advisory Committee Oversight and Management Staff is located in the Office of the Commissioner and works in close collaboration with all FDA Centers to provide consistency in the development, implementation, and operational use of Agency Advisory Committee policies and guidelines.
The committee management function was created due to the establishment of the Federal Advisory Committee Act (FACA) (Public Law 92-463). ACOMS serves as the liaison between the Office of the Secretary, the Department Committee Management Office, all of FDA's Center advisory committee support staff, and other organizations/offices within FDA. ACOMS ensures that all FDA committee management activities are consistent with the provisions of FACA, Departmental policies, and related regulations and statutes.
Currently, there are 30 standing FDA advisory committees (25 nonstatutory and 5 statutory). In addition, FDA administers one Health and Human Services Committee.
Each advisory committee is assigned an executive secretary (designated Federal official) who is responsible for the overall administrative management of the committee.
