International Space Station:
The goals of the International Space Station are to establish a permanent habitat for human, to expand our knowledge of long-term exposure to a zero-gravity environment. The station is also home to a variety of scientific experiments.

Space station research is being used to guide the planning and design of future space vehicles to carry humans back to the Moon and possibly farther into space.

ISS Facts Astronaut Sunita Williams (right) ran the complete Boston Marathon on a treadmill aboard the space station in 2007.

NASA, the European Space Agency, Russia, Japan, Canada and Brazil are collaborating to build the station.

When complete, the space station will have the equivalent mass of about 330 cars -- 419,600 kg (925,000 lbs).
