![]() Prevention Journal Spotlights Homelessness and Mental IllnessSAMHSA’s Center for Mental Health Services (CMHS) supported the development of a special issue of The Journal of Primary Prevention (Volume 28, Numbers 3-4, July 2007) on homelessness and mental illness. The 400-page special issue, “Homelessness and Mental Illness: Perspectives on Prevention,” highlights promising and innovative strategies to reduce the risk of homelessness, help people transition into the community, and stabilize formerly homeless people in permanent housing. Fifteen scholarly articles cover topics such as the emphasis on employment and work in ending homelessness, the occurrence of veterans experiencing homelessness, and community-wide strategies to prevent homelessness. By raising awareness about effective homelessness prevention and intervention programs, this special issue can help local organizations make informed decisions about the approaches that will work best in their communities. This publication results from collaboration between CMHS’s Homeless Programs Branch and The Journal of Primary Prevention. Electronic versions of the articles are available free at SAMHSA’s Homelessness Resource Center Web site at www.homeless.samhsa.gov.
