PNNL is a leading center for developing the technologies and computational methods needed to address humanity's most pressing scientific problems. Key to this effort is the laboratory's 9.1 teraflop Hewlett-Packard supercomputer, one of the most powerful supercomputers in the world. Advanced models and simulations help scientists understand how cells behave, while engineering models speed development of non-polluting engines and new image analysis tools help secure our homeland defense. For information about other computational capabilities, refer to the Computational and Information Sciences section.
