NARMS 2004 Executive Report Posted on the CVM Website

The second National Antimicrobial Resistance Monitoring System—Enteric Bacteria (NARMS) Executive Report has been posted on the FDA Center for Veterinary Medicine (CVM) website at: http://www.fda.gov/cvm/2004NARMSExeRpt.htm

The report summarizes in an integrated format, NARMS data on Salmonella and Campylobacter isolates recovered in 2004 from food animals at federally inspected plants, retail meats, and humans.  The report also includes susceptibility data on Escherichia coli isolates recovered from retail meats and chickens in 2004.  For comparison purposes, summary data from prior years are included.

As a supplement to the report, CVM has posted two interactive graphs on its website: http://www.fda.gov/cvm/2004NARMSExeRptInter.htm.  The graphs allow users to visualize the percent resistance among NARMS Salmonella and Campylobacter isolates from humans, retail meats, and food animals by year.  The graphs are dynamic and users can select the antimicrobial agent(s) and isolate source(s) to be viewed.  CVM believes these graphs will serve as practical, user-friendly tools to visualize NARMS data.
