Mental Health Report Available
By Kristin Toburen
SAMHSA’s Center for Mental Health Services (CMHS) recently released Mental Health, United
States, 2004, the latest in the series that began more than two decades ago.
Quality improvement and performance outcomes are two important issues addressed in this CMHS
report. Other topics include mental health care in primary settings, population assessments, and
several statistical studies on the state of mental health services in America.
The 334-page publication is the first edition to be released since the President’s New
Freedom Commission on Mental Health issued its final report (2003) calling for the transformation
of mental health care across the Nation. For more information on the President's New Freedom Commission on Mental Health, read an article in SAMHSA News, Summer 2003.
