KABUL, Afghanistan — Mohammad Ashraf Nasseri, Badghis Provincial Governor, and Col. Honorio Cantero López de Davalillo, Spanish Provincial Reconstruction Team Commander, along with the Deputy Governor and the Chief of Police, held a meeting with the local authorities and elders of Muqur district to discuss governance and development recently.

This was the first gathering that the current Badghis Governor held with elders from Muqur. During his speech, the Governor emphasized the importance of security in the district in order for peace to exist and allow the ISAF PRT to work together with the Muqur population to begin reconstruction of the district. Also, he declared himself against the cultivation of poppy and claimed in support of the protection of pistachio forests.

Prior to the meeting, a ribbon cutting ceremony took place of a 10 km long stretch of the road from Qala-e-Naw to Muqur, as well as the opening of a bridge. In his address to those present, the Badghis Governor thanked the Spanish PRT for its contribution to the improvement of infrastructure in the province. These constructions have been carried out by the Spanish Agency for International Cooperation (AECI) in the framework of the Spanish PRT of Qala-e-Naw.

The support to governmental institutions and the development of the country, specifically in Badghis Province, are among the Spanish PRT’s priorities.
