Candesartan Cilexetil (marketed as Atacand)

This is a summary of the most important information about Atacand. For details, talk to your healthcare professional.

What is Atacand used for?

Atacand is used either alone or in combination with other drugs to treat:

  • high blood pressure.
  • heart failure.  In heart failure patients, Atacand reduces heart-related death and hospitalizations due to heart failure complications.

Special Warnings with Atacand:

Do not take Atacand when you are pregnant. If you find out you are pregnant while taking Atacand you should call your healthcare provider and stop taking Atacand as soon as possible. During the second and third trimester of pregnancy there have been reports of harm and even death to the fetus.

What are some possible side effects of Atacand? (This is NOT a complete list of side effects reported with Atacand. Your healthcare provider can discuss with you a more complete list of side effects.)

  • Back pain
  • Dizziness
  • Cold-like symptoms
  • Sore throat
  • Stuffy nose
