Deputy CIO Hall Receives President’s Award

WASHINGTON, March 7, 2008—The FBI’s Deputy Chief Information Officer (DCIO), Dean Hall, has received the 2007 FBI Presidential Rank Award.

Numerous dignitaries and special guests, to include FBI Director Robert S. Mueller III and CIO Zalmai Azmi, attended the March 7 ceremony, held here at FBI Headquarters. U.S. Attorney General Michael B. Mukasey presented the award to DCIO Hall, who was recognized for his exemplary contributions to the FBI’s information technology management. Some key accomplishments include:

  • Establishing within the FBI the Project Management (PM) career service, which mandates specified training and certifications. Within the first year, the number of certified PMs increased from two to more than 50.
  • Managing all projects with baseline schedules to be within 90 percent of cost and schedule and to meet customer expectations.
  • In response to the Robert Hanssen espionage case, establishing the FBI’s Information Assurance Program. Within one year, the program transformed from a less than one-man year program to a combined workforce exceeding 150, delivering a broad range of information assurance services.

The Presidential Awards are presented annually to a select group of career civil servants and are conferred by the President of the United States.
