Economic Stimulus Payment

More than 130 million households will get a stimulus payment, often called a rebate. But they have to file a 2007 tax return to get it. We've got marketing flyers, print PSAs and more so you can help spread the news about these payments. And check out the audio section below where you'll find radio PSAs, an audio interview, press briefings and soundbites to download.

  • Earned Income Tax Credit - The EITC is a tax credit for people who work, but don't earn high incomes. Those who qualify could pay less federal tax, no tax, or even get a refund.

  • Telephone Excise Tax Refund - This one-time refund that eligible taxpayers can request on their 2006 federal income tax returns gives back long-distance federal excise taxes paid in previous years. It will be the most wide-reaching in IRS history - more than 160 million filers may request the refund.

  • Electronic IRS - Beyond filing electronically with IRS e-file, the Electronic IRS is a gateway to all the electronic options.

  • Free File - Eligible taxpayers can use Free File to prepare and electronically file their federal income tax returns. It’s available to anyone who earns $54,000 a year or less. That’s 70 percent of all taxpayers, roughly 97 million Americans.
