SOARS Application Now Open
The application for the 2009 SOARS Summer Program opens November 17. The application deadline is February 1, 2009. Please click here to download the application and to see submission instructions.

SOARS at AMS
The SOARS Program will be at the American Meteorological Society's 89th Annual Meeting in Phoenix, AZ, Jan. 10 - 15. Thirteen proteges will be presenting at the student conference, the general conference, or both. Current protege Marcus Walter will also be chairing one of the sessions during the student conference.
 
SOARS is now part of UCAR's Community Building Program
Check out the Community Building Program website for more information on what UCAR is doing to build and support relationships that will broaden participation in the atmospheric and related sciences.
 

Alisha Fernandez conducts research in the Galapagos

Protégé Alisha Fernandez spent her summer investigating the coastal nutrient and water budgets for Academy Bay, Puerto Ayora, Santa Cruz Island in the Galapagos off the coast of Ecuador. She worked closely with NCAR scientist Dr. Mercy Borbor Cordova on her research topic. To read her report, please visit our off-site research page.
 
The mission of SOARSĀ® is to broaden participation in the atmospheric and related sciences by engaging students from groups historically underrepresented in science and preparing them to succeed in graduate school. These groups include Black or African-American, American Indian or Alaska Native, Hispanic or Latino, female, first-generation college students, and students with disabilities. SOARS welcomes lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender students.
