Grant-Kohrs Ranch NHS (Deer Lodge, MT)
Location: Deer Lodge, MT 59722
Position Description
We are looking for a couple with their own RV, who are willing to commit 32 hours a week and a minimum of three months, to work alongside interpretive rangers; sharing information with visitors, and leaving them with a greater understanding and appreciation of the open range cattle era.

Duties: Duties will include staffing a visitor center desk, orienting visitors to the site and the surrounding area, and developing and presenting a 20 minute tour of the historic ranch house. There are also opportunities to present costumed demonstrations on various aspects of ranch life if you choose. Interpretive training will be provided. Housing: Volunteers are required to work 32 hours a week as a team. In exchange, we will reimburse $325 for your campsite at a local RV park. There are three RV parks in the local area. Network

Background and Overview—The San Francisco Bay Area Network

The Inventory and Monitoring Program and the Pacific Coast Science and Learning Center serve the National Parks of the San Francisco Bay Area Network (SFAN). The SFAN parks are within the Central California Coast Ranges and share many ecological systems and associated anthropogenic influences which include invasions of non-native species, altered fire regimes, degraded air and water quality, heavy recreational pressure, adjacent habitat loss, and climate change with associated sea level rise. The parks are extremely diverse in natural resources and have a unique set of complex management challenges within a densely populated setting. Most of the SFAN units are part of the Central California International Biosphere Reserve (Myers et al 2000), and are part of the California Floristic Province, an area recognized by Conservation International as a hotspot of biodiversity.

NOAA’s Cordell Bank National Marine Sanctuary sits just offshore of Point Reyes National Seashore and works to protect the unique offshore ecosystem surrounding the hidden Cordell Bank. The Sanctuary has research and monitoring programs to better understand the resources, has protective regulations, and communicates to the public through education and outreach programs. Cordell Bank National Marine Sanctuary is the most northern of the three contiguous National Marine Sanctuaries on our coast and is entirely offshore. www.cordellbank.noaa.gov

  • Eugene O’Neill National Historical Site (www.nps.gov/EUON)
