- Y-12's Future
Introduction
Our environment requires a new level of flexibility. Y‑12 must be positioned to support a much smaller enduring stockpile, a steady demand for special nuclear material, a growing surplus of highly enriched uranium, and an increasing role in international and domestic nonproliferation efforts.
Our future-oriented efforts are already making Y-12 able, agile, and affordable. The most noticeable changes to date are a result of infrastructure reduction. The future Y‑12 will continue to demonstrate its historical can-do attitude through efforts in the following areas:
- Planning integrating the processes by which Y‑12 plans for its future
- Facilities rebuilding and refurbishing the infrastructure and facilities
- Technologies introducing new technologies and increasing its role in international and domestic nonproliferation initiatives
- People reinvigorating staff by hiring new people and expanding individual skills and supporting the surrounding community
