Oak Ridge’s Secret City Festival offers an opportunity for a glimpse behind the fence at the Y‑12 National Security Complex, which played a key role World War II’s top-secret Manhattan Project.

Guided bus tours inside Y‑12 will be offered on Saturday, June 21, from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m.

Tours will last approximately 1 hour and will include an overview of the site.

Tours leave from the New Hope Center at 602 Scarboro Road. Pre-registration is not required, but visitors must have proof of United States citizenship, such as a state-issued, embossed birth certificate (photocopies will not be accepted) or United States passport.

Visitors also are required to wear safe footwear appropriate for work activities and site conditions. Examples of appropriate shoes include: closed toes and heels or shoes with low heels that provide good ankle support and stability (heels three-inches high or less).

Tours are on a first-come, first-served basis.

The Y-12 History Exhibit Hall at the New Hope Center will also be open and available for self-guided tours.

Y-12 is a key facility in the U.S. Nuclear Weapons Complex and is responsible for ensuring the safety, reliability, and security of the nuclear weapons stockpile and serves as the nation’s primary repository of highly enriched uranium. B&W Y‑12 operates the Y‑12 National Security Complex for the National Nuclear Security Administration.
