Renal Management Information System (REMIS)

REMIS determines Medicare coverage periods for ESRD patients and serves as the primary mechanism to store and access information in the congressionally-mandated ESRD Program Management and Medical Information System Database.

REMIS tracks the ESRD patient population for both Medicare and non-Medicare patients. REMIS also includes operational interfaces to the Medicare Beneficiary Database and to the ESRD Network Organizations' Standard Information Management System.  (REMIS replaced the prior PMMIS application, REBUS, in July 2003.)

REMIS provides secure, role-based access to current ESRD patient and facility data. REMIS calculates Medicare ESRD coverage periods for renal patients and includes operational interfaces to the SIMS Central Repository and the Medicare Enrollment Database (EDB). REMIS also includes sophisticated data quality problem resolution support.

All requests for identifiable data must be developed and reviewed with the assistance of the Research Data Assistance Center (ResDAC), who may be contacted at www.resdac.umn.edu or at resdac@umn.edu.

Once your data request has been reviewed by ResDAC, the final request can be sent to the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) as directed by ResDAC.
