The last column of the table shows the last time the percent change (or dollar change) was larger. Some interesting facts about this month's International Trade in Goods and Services report can be found at the bottom of the page.

  • The July goods deficit of ($74.9 billion) was a record.
  • July exports of goods and services ($168.1 billion) and exports of goods ($120.8 billion) were records.
  • July imports of goods and services ($230.3 billion) and imports of goods ($195.7 billion) were records.
  • The July services surplus ($12.7 billion) was a record.
  • July exports of services ($47.4 billion) and July imports of services ($34.7 billion) were records.

Goods on a Census Basis (seasonally adjusted)

Deficit

  • The July deficit of $73.0 billion was a record.
  • The July petroleum deficit of $43.4 billion was a record.
  • The July non-petroleum goods deficit of $29.63 billion was the lowest since October 2002 ($29.61 billion).

Exports

  • July exports of $121.6 billion were a record.
  • July exports of petroleum ($8.0 billion) and July exports of non-petroleum ($113.6 billion) were records.
  • July exports of industrial supplies and materials ($38.3 billion); capital goods ($41.5 billion); automotive vehicles, parts, and engines ($12.2 billion); and consumer goods ($14.9 billion) were records.

Imports

  • July imports of $194.6 billion were a record.
  • July imports of petroleum ($51.4 billion) were a record.
  • July imports of industrial supplies and materials ($80.4 billion) were a record.

Country and other highlights (Census Basis, not seasonally adjusted)

  • July exports to Mexico ($13.8 billion) were a record.
  • The July deficit with Canada ($8.3 billion) was the highest since January 2006 ($8.7 billion).
  • July imports from the European Union ($34.9 billion) were a record.
  • July imports from South/Central America ($17.1 billion) were a record.
  • The July deficit with OPEC ($24.2 billion) and July imports from OPEC ($29.6 billion) were records.
  • The July deficit of advanced technology products ($7.1 billion) was a record.
  • July imports of crude oil ($42.6 billion) and the July average price per barrel of crude oil ($124.66) were records.
  • July imports of crude oil (342 million barrels) was the highest since June 2004 (344 million barrels).
