The Boston-based New England Electronic Crimes Task Force (NET) facilitates skills sharing between member partners and provides tools, services, deliverables and processes that are designed to meet the needs of our community.

The NET is a strategic alliance of the Secret Service, private industry, academia and other law enforcement entities working together to protect the nation's critical infrastructure, using the latest in high-tech equipment to detect, deter and respond to criminal threats.

The task force investigates electronic crimes, including computer generated counterfeit currency, counterfeit checks, identity theft, bank fraud, credit card fraud, access device fraud, telecommunications fraud, corporate espionage, computer system intrusion and Internet-related child pornography and exploitation.

About the NET
The mission of the New England Electronic Crimes Task force is to establish a strategic alliance of federal, state and local law enforcement agencies, private sector technical experts, prosecutors, academic institutions and private industry to and suppress technology-based criminal activity that endangers the integrity of the nation's financial payments systems and to investigate threats against the nation's banking, finance, telecommunications and transportation infrastructures.

The goal of the New England Electronic Crimes Task Force is to identify, investigate, disrupt and dismantle individuals and criminal enterprises who are engaged in financial crimes through a two-pronged approach:
  • Identify and arrest suspects engaged in criminal activity
  • Identify and seize the proceeds of this criminal activity
The areas of focus for New England Electronic Crimes Task Force include:

  • Actual/potential fraud loss

  • Arrests/Prosecutions

  • Asset forfeiture

  • Education, awareness and training

  • Forensic examinations

  • Identity takeovers/subscription fraud

  • Intellectual property

  • New technology/R&D

  • Organized crime

  • Physical and cyber threats

  • Presentations/demonstrations
