Recruitment Bonuses for Public Health Veterinarian (Veterinary Medical Officer)
The USDA Food Safety and Inspection Service employs over 1,100 Veterinary Medical Officers (VMO) Nationwide. The locations of the available positions vary regularly. In the application process, applicants are asked to identify any geographic zone in which they are interested and willing to work. When positions become available, candidates are referred and considered in the areas that are of interest to them.

Recruitment Bonuses are currently authorized for the following locations listed below effective October 1, 2007 through September 30, 2008.

Recruitment bonuses differ by location, and are pre-established based on hiring needs and an inadequate supply of candidates. Bonus amounts are non-negotiable. Those accepting recruitment bonuses will be required to sign an agreement stating that they will remain with the Agency for at least a year.

While we have special needs in the States shown above, positions across the country are filled under this announcement. Applicants are encouraged to show an interest in up to 10 states based on where they would seriously consider working for the USDA Food Safety and Inspection Service.
