Occupational Injury and Illness

All work-related injuries and illnesses should be reported immediately to Occupational Health Services (OHS). OHS will provide appropriate on-site treatment and initiate an Accident Report. The employee's supervisor should complete the report as soon as possible and forward it to the Environmental Health and Safety(EHS). Employees who have been absent due to work-related injuries or illnesses are required to return to work through OHS.

Workers' Compensation -- OHS participates in the worker compensation process by notifying the responsible agency of the injury and by providing medical case management. The worker compensation benefits process is managed by the worker's employer.

Worker Disability Management -- worker disability management for occupational and non-occupational medical conditions of NCI-Frederick employees is provided by Occupational Health Services. You should report to OHS for work status determination for any of the following:

  • If you have an occupational injury or illness
  • If you have been absent from work for more than 3 days for any
    medical condition
  • If you are unable to perform your full work duty due to a medical condition

OHS provides a medical evaluation of work status and sends a statement of fitness for duty to your supervisor and the Human Resources office of your employer.
