How to Submit an Application
Grant application deadlines are set annually by the Board.
- Restoration and Acquisition grant applications are considered two times a year.
- Education/Outreach, Monitoring, Technical Assistance and Assessment grant applications are considered at grant cycles established by the Board.
- Watershed Council Support applications are considered once a biennium.
2007-2009 Schedule for OWEB Grant Applications & Decision Making
In May 2007, the OWEB Board approved grant application deadlines for the 2007-2009 biennium. Grant application deadlines are in April and October of each year with Board decisions made in September and March respectively.
Watershed Council Support Grant applications will next be accepted in December 2008.
What You Need to Apply for an OWEB Grant
Before applying for an OWEB grant, be sure you are prepared to complete the project. Other project considerations include:
- What needs to be done and why?
- Who will manage the funds? How will the financial parts of the project be managed? If contracting, how will you select a contractor? Choice of a fiscal agent is an important consideration when applying for a grant form OWEB.
- Will I need permits or other approvals, including local land use approval, for the project?
- If applicable, do I have the landowner´s permission to access the site and implement the project? Do I have the landowner´s committment to maintain the project when it is complete?
- What is the project likely to cost? Are material or labor costs likely to increase between when the application is submitted and the project starts?
Application Requirements
All grant applications must be submitted on the most current form prescribed by the Board (see below for the application materials) and include the following:
- Applicant name and contact information; landowner information, and name and location of the proposed project.
- Estimated line item budget identifying all sources and amounts and the project elements proposed for Board funding.
- Description of previous accomplishments if requesting funding for a multi-year project.
- Identification of volunteers and partners and their contributions.
- Project schedule.
All applicants must demonstrate that at least 25% match, based on total Board grant request, is being sought at the time of application. (see Allowable Match.) Fiscal administration costs may not exceed 10% of the total Board funds spent on the project.
Applications are considered complete as submitted.

Application Review Process
Most grant applications are reviewed regionally by an interdisciplinary team. The review of each application is summarized by staff for action by the Oregon Watershed Enhancement Board. Those project applications recommended for funding by staff are approved by the Board at regularly scheduled board meetings.
