Snow covers the Alps in this true-color image acquired from MODIS data collected on March 4, 2002. The Alps are a particularly important geological formation, serving as a border between five nations: Italy, France, Switzerland, Austria, and Slovenia (not visible). Visible in the middle of the image is Lake Geneva, a destination known for its winter sports. Snow also appears on the mountains southeast of Milan and on the island of Corsica.
