WASHINGTON, Nov. 5, 2007—The U.S. Department of Agriculture today announced that 39 agricultural trade-building projects have received nearly $3.4 million in fiscal year 2007 funding to promote market access overseas for U.S. agriculture.
USDA’s Foreign Agricultural Service’s Emerging Markets Program provides funding for expertise in the export of American farm goods with technical support for research on new markets, market promotion of U.S. agricultural goods, trade missions and trade dispute resolution. It also sponsors training so that potential buyers in emerging economies can use U.S. agricultural goods profitably.
All applications undergo a competitive review process that considers the quality of the proposal, its likelihood to succeed, and the applicant’s knowledge of the market in the region. Qualification requirements include cost sharing, market analysis and justification for federal funding.
For more information on the Emerging Markets Program, contact FAS’ Nancy Hirschhorn at (202) 720-6896, or visit the FAS web site at http://www.fas.usda.gov/mos/em-markets/em-markets.asp.
