These two MODIS images are centered on Bangladesh, with India draped around it on all sides. At the top of the images, the Himalaya Mountains tower above the countries, and they give rise to the Brahmaputra River, coming in from the northeast, and the Ganges River, coming in from the northwest. These rivers join in Bangladesh and spill out into the Bay of Bengal through numerous channels known as the Mouths of the Ganges. In the image from March 19, 2002, several fires are burning in India and Myanmar (lower right), and heavy smoke is clouding the skies. The second image is from April 13, 2002.
