State: Maine

Description:

STATE OF MAINE At least three units of the government of the State of Maine work in collaboration to address the problem of workplace substance abuse. Maine legislation requires that any employer who wants to have employee drug testing develop an employee assistance program (EAP). The proposed EAP is reviewed and approved by the Maine Department of Human Services using standards established by that Department in collaboration with the Maine Department of Labor and the Office of Substance Abuse in the State Executive Department. Maine Department of Labor The Maine Department of Labor has developed regulations and sends out applications which include guidelines for the development of acceptable policies and procedures for employee drug testing. The Department also offers technical assistance to employers wishing to develop written policies and institute drug testing.
