Passenger Auto Contract Collection Trends

Description: This report collects information on delinquency rates, refinancings, and repossessions on auto loans from automobile finance companies

OMB: None.

Purpose: The data are used for internal analysis of the cyclically sensitive auto industry. The finance company data on collection trends serve as an early indicator of possible consumer payment problems and are an important source of information on auto credit.

Background: The Federal Reserve has been the primary producer of aggregate statistics on consumer credit since 1942. This role stems from the Federal Reserve's responsibility for monetary policy, its particular responsibilities and data requirements for regulating consumer credit on occasion, and its well-developed channels of communication with major creditor groups. Since the 1940s, the Federal Reserve has maintained a program for the direct collection of consumer credit data from commercial banks, finance companies, and gasoline marketers.

Respondent Panel: The panel consists of three domestic auto manufacturers, the same panel as the monthly report on Automobile Finance Terms (FR 2005).

Frequency: Monthly, activity during the month or as-of last business day of month.

Public Release: None.
