Information
This set consists of six CD-ROM volumes containing observations
of Comet D/Shoemaker-Levy 9 and Jupiter prior to, during, and
after the collisions between the comet fragments and planet in
July 1994. The data files are in PDS and/or FITS form. There
is no software on the CD-ROMs to access the images, a FITS
reader is required for most of the images on the CDs. The data
is on the CD volumes as follows:
Volume 1 (SL9_0001)
1) Okayama Astrophysical Observatory OASIS Near-IR images for
the fragment K collision
2) Galileo PPR calibrated data sets for the G, H, L, and Q1
impact events
3) Galileo SSI images (for G,K,N,R,W) from the crash period
4) Galileo NIMS data (for G,R) from crash observations as
reflectance tables assembled from the EDR arrays and combined
with calibration files to get RIM times
5) Galileo UVS EDR data (for G,R) from crash observations and
derived counts assembled from EDR arrays
6) Galileo UVS EDR data combined with RIM times for fragment G
7) IUE long-wave (LWP) data
8) IUE short-wave (SWP) data
9) Voyager 2 UVS statement of null results
Volume 2
IRTF NSFCAM near-IR images and tabular data of Jupiter/SL9 for the
period from January 5 through August 7, 1994.
Volume 3
MSSSO CASPIR near-IR images for Jupiter/SL9 from July 17, 1994 to
July 22, 1994
Volume 4
1) MSSSO CASPIR calibration data to support the Jupiter data
2) ESO EMMI broad band images for SL9
3) ESO IRSPEC IR spectra for Jupiter/SL9
4) ESO SUSI narrow band images for Jupiter
Volumes 5 and 6
Hubble Space Telescope (HST) Wide Field Planetary Camera 2 (WFPC2)
images of Jupiter during the SL9 impact events in July 1994.
At least six more CD-ROM's will be produced over the next year or so,
containing Hubble Space Telescope spectral data, SPIREX infrared images,
Lowell Observatory CCD images, AAT spectral data and ground-based
photometry.
