Workshop Description

Please join us for a day-and-a-half long workshop organized by the Dartmouth Toxic Metals Research Program. The goal of this workshop is to develop a research and bio-monitoring agenda on mercury linking the lessons and paradigms from uplands research to marine systems and human health. Our focus will be on the Northeast and the Mid-Atlantic region. Among the expected outcomes of the workshop are a white paper and a journal publication.

This will be a participatory "roll-up-your-sleeves" session. The scientific purpose of the workshop is to 1) extend current research on mercury fate in upland forests and lakes to research in estuaries and coastal marine systems; 2) identify knowledge gaps regarding the links between bioavailability of mercury in aquatic food webs and human exposure; 3) discuss the feasibility and implementation of regional and national long-term bio-monitoring programs.

This workshop is by invitation only and is free of charge. We have limited funding to pay for travel of those who would otherwise be unable to attend. Space is limited to 45 participants in order to invite maximal interaction and participation.

The workshop will be held at the New England Center at the University of New Hampshire.
