Second Biennial Central & Eastern European Environmental Health

Bratislava, October 22 - 25, 2006

Overview

The first CEEEH Conference, held in Prague, Czech Republic in 2004 addressed issues and methods to solve common environmental health problems. Discussions planned for the 2006 Conference will build the 2004 conference and will include environmental exposures, human and ecological risk characterization, and risk management. It is hoped that the 2006 Conference will encourage collaborations among engineers, scientists and students from many disciplines. Following the success of the first conference, the 2006 Conference will to provide an opportunity for renewed discussions on the New Challenges and Perspectives regarding the relationship between health and the environment.

Conference Objectives

  • To gather scientists, engineers, and other professionals from US and Europe to discuss challenges in research regarding the impact of the environment on health
  • To discuss new approaches for site assessment and risk characteristics
  • To discuss innovated methods of risk management and remediation
  • To discuss methods for evaluating the linkage between exposure and disease
  • To discuss improved methods for risk communication

Conference Themes

  1. Health effects of outdoor and indoor air pollution.
  2. Health effects of exposure to contaminated water.
  3. The relationship between soil contamination and impacts on human and ecological health.
  4. Environmental epidemiology.
  5. Environmental health (Toxicology studies-persistent organic pollutants, endocrine disruptors, carcinogens, complex mixtures).
  6. Children's health and the environment
  7. Human and ecological health risk assessment
  8. Technology development for remediation of mines, agricultural and military sites.
  9. Risk management and remediation.
  10. Policy issues and environmental health information systems.

The Conference will provide an opportunity to develop collaborations among students, scientists, engineers, decision makers and other professionals involved in health and environmental research in the US and Europe.

Contributions

Attendees are kindly invited to present an original scientific contribution at the Conference. Contributions may be presented as plenary lectures, lectures in sections, and posters.

Language

The official language of the Conference will be English.

Student participation

  1. A Career Fair will be held the night before the opening session of the conference. Opportunities for jobs and graduate positions will be available.
  2. Pre-conference workshops will be offered
  3. The Conference will include a student panel where students will be encouraged to present their views on current issues regarding the impact of the environment on health and potential resolutions to those problems.
  4. Scholarships are available.
