Commander John C. Tribble, Jr., retired
January 31, 1955, from active duty after more than 25 years of
service in the U.S. Coast and Geodetic Survey.
Commander Tribble is a native of Marks, Mississippi, and received
his education at the University of Mississippi, graduating in
June 1929 with the degree of Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering.
He entered on duty in this Bureau July 6, 1929, where he has
served until the date of his retirement.
During his long career he has served aboard the Ships DERICKSON,
SURVEYOR, PATHFINDER, HYDROGRAPHER, PARKER, and as Commanding
Officer of the HILGARD engaged on the hydrographic surveys along
the Atlantic, Gulf, and Pacific Coasts of the United States,
and in Alaska.
During World War II, Commander Tribble served in the United
States Navy.
