The Conference theme is Suicide Research and Prevention in Times of Rapid Change in the Asia Pacific Region: Opportunities and Challenges. Sixty percent of the over one million suicides each year occur in Asia. It will provide a forum for academics, mental health professionals, crisis workers, volunteers and suicide survivors to identify promising new prevention and intervention methods and to encourage the development of effective and evidence-based preventive measures in Asian Pacific countries.

The training program is appropriate both for survivors who would like to start a new group, as well as those who currently facilitate a group and would like to increase their knowledge and skills.
Note: In order to create an environment in which participants can best develop and practice the skills necessary to facilitate a group effectively, attendees should be at least two years after the suicide of their loved one (this training program is not meant to serve as a healing conference; you can find information about healing conferences on this website, or you can call 1-888-333-AFSP). Mental health professionals are also welcome, although professional education credits are not available at this time.

Campus Mental Health Action Planning Part 1: Building Momentum

Describes a comprehensive, campus-wide approach to mental health promotion and suicide prevention. Participants are asked to consider available data sources, methods of collecting additional information, and the known risk and protective factors for suicide. Participants are given a method of building the readiness of campus constituencies to address student mental health and wellness. Key lessons from previous research regarding the use of task forces in campus planning efforts are discussed, and Cornell University presents its experiences using this tactic. This webinar is the first in a four-part series.

CARES Suicide Prevention will be hosting the second annual "Survivors Stepping Out" walk at Tarpon Point Marina on Saturday, November 22, 2008. This date is National Survivor of Suicide Day and we will be incorporating the breakout support groups with the walk. Support Groups start at 9:30 am. Registration starts at 10:00 a.m. Walk starts at 12:00 p.m. noon Everyone is welcomed to walk in memory of those lost to suicide.
Registration fee is $10.00 per walker which includes t-shirt, food, and beverages. There will be an opening ceremony and a closing ceremony to honor our loved ones. Join us as we honor our loved ones on National Survivor of Suicide Day.
