Data Element Name. Calendar Date - Format 2.

Description. This standard provides format specifications for representing the day, month, and the year as identified by the Gregorian Calendar.

Relationship.

FDA Specifications. Calendar Date - Format 2 is represented by alphanumeric text of nine (9) or eleven (11) characters in the format DD-MMM-(YY)YY where:

DD represents day of month (01, 02, ..., 31);

MMM represents month of year (JAN, FEB, ..., DEC); and

(YY)YY represents year of century ((19)00, (19)01, ..., (20)00).

(The representation for year can be expressed in two or four digits depending on a particular systems requirements.)

CDER Specifications. All systems should attempt to convert to the four digit year (instead of the two-digit year) because of the nearing of the end of the current century.
