The National Technical Information Service (NTIS) is a self-supporting federal agency that collects and organize federally funded information of Scientific, Technical, Engineering, and business relation to include Health, Environment, Energy, Safety and Emergency responders. This information is generated by the US Government and Foreign sources and makes it available to other researchers, developmental communities, businesses and the public domain.

NTIS is required by law to be self-sustaining supporting Congress and other federal agencies and academic institutions to accomplish the informational mission for the Federal Government. In compliance with ATPA (American Technology Preeminence Act); Public law 102-245, section 108 requires that federal agencies transfer to NTIS, unclassified scientific, technical, engineering, and business related information which results from federally-funded research activities.

The NTIS collection currently exceeds 2.7 million titles, all of which are permanently available. NTIS collection includes business and management reports, domestic and trade, general statistics, environmental and energy, health and social sciences. Media format include printed reports, electronic databases, audio visual, CD-Rom, Diskettes, Tapes and DVD, as well as on-line downloadable data.
