Crime

Source: The Uniform Crime Reporting (UCR) Program, Federal Bureau of Investigation Updated annually. http://www.fbi.gov/ucr/ucr.htm

Definitions:

Violent crimes include murder and nonnegligent manslaugher, forcible rape, robbery, and aggravated assault. Property crimes include burglary, larceny-theft, and motor-vehicle theft.

Scope and Methodology: Agencies that contribute to the Uniform Crime Reporting (UCR) Program forward crime data through the state UCR Programs in 46 states and the District of Columbia. Local agencies in states that do not have a state Program submit statistics directly to the FBI, which provides continuing guidance and support to individual contributing agencies.

Crime rates are based on population statistics provided by the FBI and may differ from similar statistics reported by the Census Bureau. Population statistics generated by the FBI are used to calculate crime rates and to estimate the proportion of the population covered by the UCR program.
