Governors and Lt. GovernorsThe pages for the top elected officials in a state focus on priorities of the current state administration. Here you may find a welcome message from the Governor, the text and/or audio or video coverage of recent speeches, staff biographical information, background on key issues, gubernatorial appointments, and photographic tours of the Governor's office or mansion. The Governor's page may allow users to address a message directly to the Governor or to sign up for e-mail updates. Far from being a ceremonial figure, the Lieutenant Governor often presides as President of the state's Senate, chairs or participates in commissions dealing with key issues, and gives many speeches. These responsibilities are reflected in the Lt. Governor's website. The Lt. Governors of Alaska, Hawaii, and Utah are responsible for many of the functions usually associated with the Secretary of State. Arizona, Maine, New Hampshire, New Jersey, Oregon, Wyoming do not elect Lt. Governors.
