From: Shelley Amdur [shelleyruth@iGlide.net] Sent: Thursday, March 29, 2001 11:58 PM To: fdadockets@oc.fda.gov Subject: Docket 00N-1396 & Docket 00D-1598 I am writing regarding the proposed new rules on Genetically Engineered foods. The proposed ruling puts our health at risk. Any new rules MUST: 1) Require mandatory pre-market comprehensive environmental review. A small number of mutant genes could have a population explosion and reproduce forever, causing unlimited and irreparable damage. 2) Require mandatory pre-market long term health testing. GE products could be toxic, and compromise immune responses in consumers. 3) Mandatory labeling. A must. 4) FDA must end its blurred relationship with the biotech industry it purports to be regulating. Stop the conflicts of interest. If the FDA does not enact some strict rules along the lines I have mentioned above, we are due for a health scare that will make Mad Cow disease or Foot and Mouth disease look paltry. Please do not put the health of all of us at risk. Shelley R. Amdur 4723 N. Sacramento Ave. Chicago, IL 60625
