2007-2008

The American School of Tangier is an independent, coeducational day and boarding school which offers an educational program from prekindergarten through grade 12 for students of all nationalities. The School was founded in 1950. The school year comprises 3 trimesters extending from September 10 to December 14 from January 7 to March 14, and from March 31 to June 21.

Organization: The School is governed by a self-perpetuating Board of Trustees elected for 2-year terms. The School is incorporated in the State of Delaware and registered with the Internal Revenue Service as a U.S. tax-exempt institution.

Curriculum: The curriculum is that of U.S. college-preparatory schools. Instruction is in English. French is taught as a foreign language beginning in grade 5, and Arabic is required of Moroccan students in all grades and is open to all students.

Faculty: In the 2007-2008 school year, there are 41 full-time and 3 part-time faculty members.

Enrollment: At the beginning of the 2007-2008 school year, enrollment was 325 (PK-grade 12).

Facilities: The School is housed in 29 modern classrooms located on an 11-acre site. Facilities include a 12,500-volume library, a science lab, and computer lab. This year the School built a gymnasium and a swimming pool.

Finances: In the 2007-2008 school year, about 80% of the School's income derives from tuition and 20% from donations. Annual tuition rates are as follows: PK-Kdg.: $4,779; grades 1-6: $14,600; grades 7-8: $15,050; and grades 9-12: $17,070. Tuition fees include the use of the science laboratories, athletic equipment, and counseling services. There is a nonrefundable registration fee of $1,200. These fees are payable in U.S. dollars. (All fees are quoted in U.S. dollars.)
