The International School of Krakow (ISK) was established by the American School of Warsaw in 1993. In 1998, the growth of the (American) International School of Krakow allowed it to operate as an independent institution. In 2004, as a reflection of the changing student population, the School adopted an international program to best meet the needs of its students. In doing so, the School became The International School of Krakow. In 2005, ISK joined forces with the Krakow International School Project, an initiative of the region's leading international companies, to promote the development of international education. ISK is currently working on expanding its program through cooperative educational endeavors with some of Krakow's finest institutions of higher education.
Organization: The School Board is the key governing body of the School. The Board consists of up to 9 members, with the majority being U.S. citizens. The U.S. Consul General is designated as the chairperson of the Board, and the U.S. Consulate's management officer is the treasurer. The School cooperates with a domestic not-for-profit educational foundation as well as a U.S.-based nonprofit Association.
Curriculum: The educational program is comparable to that found in U.S. public and private schools. The high school program is a blend of U.S., Polish, and British curricula. English is the language of instruction in all subjects. The Little Acorns' preschool program focuses on English language development and social and personal growth. The curriculum is an international one with IPC for nursery through age 12 and the International High School Curriculum for ages 13 through 18. ISK has gifted extension programs across all ages with Johns Hopkins University, the University of Nebraska, and Stetson University; in addition to offering AP, A-Level, CNED, and IGCSE coursework. ISK uses the International Schools Assessment (ISA) for externally marked exams through grade 10. AP exams are offered in grades 9-12, PSAT is offered in grades 9 and 10, and the SAT is offered four times per academic year. There are extensive after school activities such as math club, the after school of rock, yoga, ski club, swimming, book worms, photography club, art studio, baseball, football, yearbook, guitar club, choir, etc.
Faculty: In the 2007-2008 school year, there are 35 faculty members.
Enrollment: At the beginning of the 2007-2008 school year, the enrollment was 122 (age 3-grade 12).
Facilities: The School has recently moved into a new facility just outside the city center, situated on a hilltop overlooking Krakow city between two forest reserves. There is ample space for outdoor activities. The campus is secure with a newly funded security infrastructure and guards.
Finances: In the school year 2007-2008, the School's income derives from tuition. Annual tuition rates are as follows: Nursery: €4,500; Preschool: €7,100; and grades 1-12: €10,000. The School also charges a one-time application fee of €200 and an annual capital fund fee of €700 (Grades 1 - 12). These fees are payable in U.S. dollars. (All fees are quoted in euros.)
