Built at Canton Lumber Company, Baltimore, Maryland, at a cost of
$12,000 in 1919. In service 1919-1944 on Atlantic coast. Worked as
wiredrag vessel with OGDEN. Named for Henri Louis Francois Marindin
(1843-1904), who like Hassler and Pourtales, was born a Swiss citizen
but made the United States his home and the Coast Survey his life
work. He was particularly known for his studies of tides and currents
and their actions on harbors, islands, and engineering works.
