Tims Ford Marina and Resort Certified as Clean Marina

September 19, 2005

TULLAHOMA, Tenn. – Tims Ford Marina and Resort on Tims Ford Reservoir is flying a Clean Marina flag in recognition of the marina’s efforts to preserve and protect water quality in the Tennessee River system.

A certificate and flag were presented to Joe and Ginger Bondurant, marina owners, and Pitts Clayton, marina operator, on Sept. 17.

“To receive this designation, a marina must meet all federal, state and local regulations related to marina management,” said Susanna Bass, TVA’s Clean Marina coordinator for Tims Ford Reservoir.  “Tims Ford Marina and Resort has implemented innovative measures to handle boat sewage as part of its efforts to meet Clean Marina standards.”

Other efforts leading to Clean Marina certification include safe fuel management techniques, protecting shorelines from erosion, and providing educational information and learning opportunities for boaters.  TVA’s clean marina program helps marinas protect water quality by encouraging marina-sponsored boater education and reducing water pollution and erosion.

“The expenses involved are minimal when you weigh them against the benefits of protecting Tims Ford Reservoir,” said Tims Ford Marina and Resort Operator Pitts Clayton.  “Our livelihood depends upon a healthy lake, and taking a few extra steps to protect that health is a good investment in our future.”

Currently, 48 marinas in the Tennessee Valley have achieved the high environmental standards required for Clean Marina certification.  More information on clean marinas is available at http://www.tva.gov/environment/water/boating.htm
