TVA Identifies Preferred Route for Nolensville Transmission Line

July 5, 2005

NOLENSVILLE, Tenn. -- TVA has identified a preferred route for a proposed transmission line from Triune to Nolensville that is needed to maintain reliability while meeting the growing power demands of the area.

The 5.3-mile preferred route would begin at TVA’s East Franklin-Triune transmission line, approximately 2.5 miles west of Triune, and continue north to Middle Tennessee EMC’s new Clovercroft Substation near Clovercroft Road in Nolensville.

Compared to five other alternatives, the preferred route is the shortest feasible option studied and has the least overall project impacts.

The preferred route, identified by segments 16, 2 and 1 on the map, is the western-most of six alternative routes. See a map of the preferred route.

The new line, to be built on 100-foot minimum width right-of-way, is targeted to be in service by June 2007.

The decision follows receipt and evaluation of public input on six alternative routes.

Each route was evaluated using the same environmental, land use, engineering and cost considerations. The reviews were based on available data, aerial photography, limited onsite reviews, public review and comment and property owner input.

Approximately 40 property owners who would be directly affected by the transmission line are being notified by mail. TVA will follow up with property owners by phone to answer questions and coordinate access for environmental and engineering surveys. The surveys are expected to be completed in the summer of 2006.

TVA is expected to begin acquiring easement for the transmission right-of-way in the fall of 2006. Construction is scheduled to begin in the winter of 2006/2007 with project completion in June 2007.

TVA is the nation’s largest public power provider and is completely self-financed. TVA provides power to large industries and 158 power distributors that serve approximately 8.5 million consumers in seven southeastern states.
