Trade and Investment - Trade Capacity Building Activities

U.S. Government Trade Capacity Building

The United States is the largest provider of trade capacity building assistance in the world. In recent years, USAID has funded 70% of all U.S. trade capacity building assistance in various regions of the world.

Chart showing U.S. government and USAID Trade Capacity Building Assistance from 1999 to 2003.  USG government assistance has risen from $248 million in 1999 to $751 million in 2003.  USAID has provided well over half of total U.S. government trade capacity building assistance over this period.

Out of a total $752 million, $133 million has gone to Sub-Saharan Africa, $150 million to Latin America and the Caribbean, $174 to the Middle East and North Africa, $65 million to Central and Eastern Europe, $84 million to former Soviet Republics, $92 million to Asia, and $53 million for non-targeted global activities.
