I am a blind cane traveler. I have been blind for over 20 years now. I fully support the recommendations of the PROWAC report concerning detectible warnings and and accessible pedistrian signals. I have been a counselor and advocate for the blind for over ten years now, and, believe me, the NFB does not speak for the majority of the blind on this issue. Just in my backyard, Sacramento CA has one of the highest rates of pedestrian injuries in the country. Within my community, there are many places where a blind cane user would have to be crazy to try and navigate. To me, the detectible warnings aren't quite as important as audible signals, but if they help others, I'm willing to go along with them. Please, don't go backwards on this issue.
