Jeffery K. Nulf
Deputy Assistant Secretary for Administration

Jeffery Nulf joined the U.S. Department of Commerce as the Deputy Assistant Secretary for Administration in June 2004.  As the principal deputy to the Chief Financial Officer and Assistant Secretary for Administration, he assists in ensuring that Commerce administrative functions are efficiently and effectively carried out.  During his tenure at Commerce, Mr. Nulf has provided focused attention to restructuring human capital management at the Department level particularly as it relates to performance management and measurement, employee development and succession planning, and improved service delivery to client operating units.  Mr. Nulf has played a key role in implementing important management reforms, including Presidential initiatives specifically involving strategic human capital management.

Jeffery Nulf has extensive private sector experience in dealing with similar matters, particularly as they relate to human capital management.  Most recently, he served as Vice President for Organizational Development with Middleburg Financial Corporation.  In that capacity, he addressed a wide range of timely issues principally concerned with aligning human capital and organizational strategic objectives.

Between 1998 and 2002, Mr. Nulf worked as the Director for Human Resources with Ciraden, Inc., a software technology company delivering business services and technology solutions to health care facilities throughout the United States.  He oversaw the development and implementation of organization-wide human resource strategic planning, policies and programs in concert with the firm's business plan.

From 1991 to 1998, Mr. Nulf functioned as the Director for Human Resources with the Republican National Committee.  As such, he directed all facets of human resource practices, programs and systems, including recruitment and retention, orientation and training, labor relations, and benefits and compensation.

Among other private pursuits, Mr. Nulf is a member of Leadership Fairfax, Inc., a community leadership development program established to develop, connect and inspire leaders to strengthen local communities.  He received a bachelor's degree in business administration, majoring in business finance, from Radford University in 1990 as well as certifications in the field of human resources management from the Wharton School of Business, George Mason University, and the Society of Human Resources Management.  He resides in Ashburn, Virginia with his wife, Carolyn, and their twin children, Matthew and Kylie.
