The Industrial Technologies Program (ITP) seeks to improve the overall energy efficiency of the U.S. forest products industry. Through the Forest Products Industry of the Future (IOF) strategy, ITP partners with industry to effectively plan and implement a comprehensive energy agenda to reduce energy intensity and help ensure the industry's vitality well into the future.

The Forest Products Industry of the Future (IOF) responds to the unique challenges in the forest products industry by:

  • Supporting collaborative, innovative R&D on forest product technologies;
  • Promoting demonstration of promising technologies; and
  • Promoting the implementation of best practices and emerging technologies.

The forest products subprogram supports cost-shared R&D to help industry increase energy efficiency while promoting economic growth. Some R&D projects have already produced tremendous results: innovative new technologies available in the marketplace today.
