ABOUT OTHER DATA RESOURCES

There are numerous and various other sources of meteorological and oceanographic research data and information. We have compiled a list of many of these other resources, but this should not be considered to be comprehensive.

To get more information about the sources listed above, move your mouse over the link and watch this area. Click the link to go to the website for the resource of interest.

UCAR COMMUNITY DATA PORTAL

GLOBAL CHANGE MASTER DIRECTORY

CEDAR

Coupling, Energy and Dynamics of Atmospheric Regions is a focused global change program. The CEDAR database is a cooperative project between NCAR's High Altitude Observatory, the National Science Foundation, and several other institutions.

ATD

The Atmospheric Technology Division of NCAR maintains an archive of data from past field projects, as well as processing and display software.

CGD'S CAS

The Climate Aanalysis Section of NCAR's Climate and Global Dynamics Division, maintains an archive of observational datasets and analyses for use in support of climate modelling and research.

UNIDATA

NCAR's Unidata is a source of real- and near real-time earth-related data streams from the National Weather Service and other agencies. These data are available to researchers and educators.

NCDC

The National Climatic Data Center is part of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, and it operates a World Data Center for meteorology.

NCEP

The National Centers for Environmental Prediction have a link on their home page to ftp downloads of various observational data and analyses.

NGDC

The National Geophysical Data Center is part of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, and it operates a World Data Center for multiple disciplines.

NSSL CODIAC

NSSL CODIAC is a data management system which offers scientists access to research and operational geophysical data. It is part of the National Severe Storms Laboratory.

CDIAC

The Carbon Dioxide Information Analysis Center is part of the Department of Energy, and it operates a World Data Center for Atmospheric Trace Gases in support of research on the greenhouse effect and global climate change.

USGS

The United States Geological Survey has many geophysical and geological datasets.

JPL'S PO.DAAC

The Physical Oceanography Distributed Data Active Archive Center, at NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory, is a source of various oceanographic datasets.

WDC SYSTEM

The World Data Center system is a system of centers around the world that are tasked with collecting, archiving, and redistributing solar, geophysical, and related environmental data.

AASC

The American Association of State Climatologists is a professional scientific organization which includes the individual state climatologists and the directors of the six regional climate centers. You can access climate centers from the AASC web page.

SCI.GEO.METEOROLOGY FAQ

Along with information about data sources, this FAQ includes other useful information pertaining to the field of meteorology.

HYDROMET NETWORKS

UCAR's JOSS (Joint Office of Science Support) has compiled a list of hydrometeorological data networks by U.S. state. This list can be helpful in locating various types of surface data.

ORNL'S DAAC

The Distributed Active Archive Center at Oak Ridge National Laboratory archives data and model products related to biogeochemical dynamics which are the result of the interactions between the biological, geological, and chemical components of the Earth's environment.

NIN

The Northern Information Network will allow you to search for data covering the Canadian North from various data centers.
