From the Chief Judge

Thank you for joining us for the Tenth Judicial Conference of the U.S. Court of Appeals for Veterans Claims held on Monday and Tuesday, April 14-15, 2008, in Washington, D.C.

The Court's biennial conference was developed with input from members of the Court's Bar Association, private practitioners, and VA representatives.  The conference theme,"20 Years of Judicial Review; the Past, the Present, and the Future," provided a forum for discussion on the challenges faced at the Court's beginning, recent developments in veterans' law, and measures being taken to improve judicial review of veterans' appeals.

Conference highlights included a review of the Court's seminal decisions over the past two years, as well as a look at significant trends since the Court's creation; an "Ask the Judges" session where the active judges responded to conferee's submitted questions; a panel of the Court's retired judges discussing the history of the Court; and an overview of the Court's new rules, e-filing, and enhanced mediation program.

Conferees were encouraged to register for the conference online and for the first time, the conference was available by Web Cast  for those unable to personally attend.

I look forward to seeing you at the Eleventh Judicial Conference.
