Secretary of Commerce Don Evans Applauds Senate Passage of Export Administration Act as Modern-day Legislation for Modern-day Technology

"Technology and open trade have changed the way America does business. Yesterday's supercomputer is today's Playstation.

Today, the Senate embraced the realities of the 21st century global economy and passed legislation to establish rules that ensure our national security while allowing American technology companies to continue to lead the world in the global marketplace.

In light of the strong bi-partisan support in the Senate for the Export Administration Act, we encourage the House of Representatives to act expeditiously on this legislation.

Open markets are an engine for economic growth. The Export Administration Act together with Trade Promotion Authority says to markets, businesses and workers that the United States will lead on trade."
