The "What is it?"
Spelling Game!

Scientists have to be able to "classify" (identify) things they are studying in their work. Sometimes that can be very difficult, particularly when they are seeing something that they have never seen before -- that can happen a lot in a research laboratory. In fact, identifying things that have never been seen before is one of the most exciting goals of science!

To help scientists see things clearly, they may use special equipment like a microscope, MRI, CAT scan, or X-ray machine. Those last three pieces of equipment are capable of looking inside objects or our bodies to find out what may be wrong with us when we are sick.

Here's what
an MRI
looks like!

MRI

Has anyone in your family ever gone to a doctor or hospital for an X-ray, MRI, or CAT scan? Have you? Then you know that even if the equipment looks scary, it doesn't hurt you! And you may also know how important such equipment can be for helping scientists and doctors determine what is causing various health problems. After playing the game below, why not learn more about becoming a scientist yourself someday!

Playing Instructions

The following game allows you to identify some of the things that you see frequently in the world around you. Type in a name for each item that appears below the keyboard, and then press "DONE." If your answer is correct, "You Won!" will appear, and you will be given another picture! Remember, you have to spell your guesses correctly in order to win! If you don't get it right the first time, you can always try again -- and if you still can't figure it out, you can click on "Help," and the answer will appear.
