CE Marking – Testing/Certifying Labs
The following list of laboratories is intended as an initial resource for U.S. businesses seeking assistance in complying with European Union (EU) "CE marking" requirements. It is not intended to be a comprehensive compilation of U.S. companies that provide CE marking testing and related services nor an endorsement of any company. The names of the companies on this list have been collected over several years, through research by the staff of the Office of European Union and Regional Affairs, U.S. Department of Commerce, by referral, and through direct requests for inclusion.
Any company that wishes to be included in this list may send its information to the Trade Information Center's (TIC) webmaster: TICwebmaster@ita.doc.gov
The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) also has a list of labs on their website: http://ts.nist.gov/Standards/Global/mra_rebuild_useu.cfm that have been designated as Conformity Assessment Bodies (CABs) under the mutual recognition agreements with the EU. These labs can do testing for CE marking requirements for certain directives. The list of labs below include labs that are formally authorized to certify products for CE marking compliance (These labs are marked with an, "*".) as well as labs that are not authorized to certify products but can test products for compliance and instruct on how to self-certify a product. Labs are formally authorized to certify products if they are affiliated with "Notified bodies."
Even for products that allow self-certification and do not require a notified body's approval, a company should use a lab to test that its product has met the appropriate standards and is compliant.
