Outreach
With a mission to support science with management applications, CSCOR promotes activities to help bridge the knowledge gap between science and the public. Scientific information produced by CSCOR sponsorship often vies for public attention. CSCOR seeks to present the findings its sponsored research in a manner that promotes linkages between scientists, managers and the public and increases access to and understanding of NOAA sciences. CSCOR/COP works with the NOAA Office of Public and Constituent Affairs to promote CSCOR services and products and benefits to the nation.
In addition CSCOR is dedicated to the NOAA goal to add significantly to the number of students that choose education and careers supportive of NOAA’s mission with a particular focus on under represented groups. In this regard CSCOR proudly sponsors educational and career development programs that support activities designed to facilitate and/or enhance the development of qualified professionals in the fields of coastal ocean science, management, and policy. CSCOR performs this work in partnership with the NOAA Office of Education and the NOAA Education Council in regards to educational and career building activities in the earth sciences. These efforts help support NOAA goals and objectives to increase environmental literacy outreach and education, a cross-cutting priority with NOAA.
